Welcome to Cork Green Energy
A subsidiary of MCP Group, Cork Green Energy was established in January 2020 to generate Green Electricity. Fuelled by biomass, MCP Group’s Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant produces electricity for over 1,300 homes.
About
Cork Green Energy’s CHP plant is powered by biomass, which is a carbon-neutral green energy (replanting the trees that were used in the process absorbs the same carbon that was released in the combustion process, thus contributing to its carbon-neutral properties). This biomass is sourced from MCP Group’s pallet operations, and is burned to generate both green electricity and heat.
Technology & Output
Cork Green Energy uses Turboden Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) technology to simultaneously produce heat and generate power with high efficiency. This allows Cork Green Energy to produce 1.3 megawatts of Green Electricity per hour, which is supplied directly to the national grid and can power the needs of over 1,300 homes. Additionally, the heat generated by this process is supplied back to MCP Group to Heat Treat and Kiln Dry Pallets.
