Why are Wooden Pallets the sustainable choice for any supply chain?

Wood is a renewable resource and constitutes around 99% of a Wooden Pallet’s composition. Wooden Pallets can be recovered, reused, repaired, recycled, and even upcycled, making them one of the most sustainable products on the market today.

In recent years, sustainability and the circular economy have received massive attention as Ireland and the world are taking decisive action to reduce our Greenhouse gas emissions. So, how can the humble Wooden Pallet help companies protect the environment in the future and ensure their supply chains are meeting their green credentials?

1. Buying pallets is a sustainable choice. Wood is a highly versatile, sustainable, and renewable resource. Typically, the timber used to manufacture Pallets is sourced from FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) certified suppliers, which promotes responsible management of the world’s forests.

2. Pallets are often repairable. One of the greatest strengths of Pallets is the ease with which they can be repaired, sometimes up to 10-15 times. Unlike other Pallets (plastic or metal), Wooden Pallets can be damaged or broken but affordably and quickly fixed. As a result, deck boards, stringers, etc., can be replaced or repaired, which allows Pallets to be used multiple times before coming to the end of their life.

3. Pallets can be recyclable. Pallets are one of the most recyclable materials on the market. They can be used for so many different things before being disposed of, such as repairing other Pallets, ground into mulch for landscaping, or upcycled into furniture.

Through the unique properties of wood, carbon offsets may be achieved by reusing Pallet materials and substituting wood fuel from Pallet waste (e.g., unusable Pallets) for biomass,” thus decreasing the amount of carbon emissions in the atmosphere.
